Plett is a small and friendly town. And so many of us have grown up at central beach either doing nippers, building sand castles, or one day tanning and trying to look your best. It holds a special memory to each and every one of us that have grown up around that beach, and there are other beaches, yes, each hold a special memory, but Central to me and to many others I'd think holds a miraculous memory of our childhoods and time growing up there.
Memories are better than money, and there are tonnes more people that need to have their own memories there, don't take that away from them.

We already have a waste problem, water shortages and repeated silting up of the lagoon area where the proposed harbour is to take place. What happens to all the new influx of labourers looking for work ? Where do they live ? As a rate-payer I have chosen to live here specifically because of very little development...if I wanted to live in a cosmopolitan commercialized environment I would not have bought property here. It makes no sense to me to ruin our most popular family beach by means of densification of buildings, shadowed beach, removal of natural vegetation, walls in sea prohibiting free movement of our famous and popular dolphins and whales. This added to the fact that the stands involved are not privately owned ..they belong to the state or to the municipality. Furthermore the buildings on them cannot be insured as they are below the 100year flood level. If the four billion rand development runs into financial difficulties, the municipality could have to bale out the developers . The ratepayers may therefore land up having to pay heavier rates and taxes.
Where is the demand for small boats coming into our bay anyway? This doesn't seem to be what it is about. It is more likely to be a smokescreen for moneymaking.
Our tourism authorities should be concentrating on promoting eco-tourism and wedding tourism. These bring in huge amounts of money annually, with tourists leaving nothing but their footprints behind. They look for unspoilt destinations and beautiful beaches like the present Plett.
Please don't let us become like the ruined South Coast of Natal.

The scope and time frame for this development are inappropriate for Plett.
The socio-economic, environmental impacts are significant. If the developer runs into financial difficulty the ratepayers of Plett will be left with a damaged Central Beach and surrounds to repair.
The developer has no face and was absent from the meeting - just the type of developer we don't want.
We believe that the encumbents in council when this development was under consideration were not acting in good faith when they endorsed it. It should be abandoned on these grounds.
The original motivation for a smallcraft harbour was to deal with the conflict between fishing boats and beach users - this has fallen away completely.
The ongoing maintenance costs for such a facility will be astronomical, and if the unit owners and developer cannot afford to maintain it, the ratepayer will be left holding the baby.
The development is ill-considered, and discussions with the individual professionals present at the meeting showed they lacked conviction. A view offered by the architects was that if they don't do this development, someone else will, so support it - what garbage coming from the mouth of a professional

All the beaches in Plettenberg Bay are totally unspoiled and should stay that way. The first development will be the crack in the wall opening the way to others. Knysna offers the best small yocht facilities along that part of the country and is only 30 km away, and there is also a safe harbour for small boats on the Keurbooms river that is underdeveloped. There is absolutely no need for a harbour along any of the beachfronts

I have lived nearby Plett and am still a frequent visitor to the area. I wouldn`t like that development at all.

Plett is one of the most beautiful, natural places in the world. How can it even be a consideration that we would want to hide and destroy the natural beauty with concrete? What have we become? Are we humans only about money and power now? It is shameful. Please do not take away the peace, the tranquility and the beauty of our beloved Plett.

I fully support this petition. This is an outrageous development proposal which will have long term and devastating repercussions for all Plett people as it will ruin the town, damage the Garden Route. Any new coastal developments have to take cogniscance of climate change, which this one clearly does NOT and the people of Plett will have to live with this disfiguring monster long after it has been broken to ugly bits by the rising sea. It's really a lunatic idea. Central Beach is a much loved safe swimming beach for all the people of Plett. This development will take it away forever.

Absolutely opposed to this. This would destroy the very thing that makes Plett so special, viz the pristine beach front area as well as the Piesang Valley river front and mouth area, never mind the potential negative impact on the surrounding eco systems.
