But I realized some people are persistently calling it by another name, and actually want to change the name of the Persian Gulf. For that reason I have signed this petition to remind those that are ignorant, historic geographical names have never been changed and do not change. I'm sorry but if you one day decide you don't like the historical name of a body of water you can not change it. It's like the USA wanting to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, just the simple notion to this idea is preposterous. In conclusion the Persian Gulf has been the Persian Gulf for over 2,000 years, and it will not change just because some people about fifty years ago decided to call it something else. The fact that this petition had to even be named is shameful, but I understand there are many people in the world lacking proper education, and I see it as a duty for the educated to help these people out.
