Why not increase the number of dog bins (and the amount they're cleaned out by council). Why not encourage responsible dog ownership instead of restricting it. I haven't seen that many people using that beach (on their own - without dogs) anyway. Most people find it too polluted (by sewerage, not dog waste) to use anyway. 1/3 of homes have at least one dog, why close the beach to those people because of the complaints of one.

If there is a real problem, and I am aware that this is more utilised by the bathing public than Howrah Beach in the summer then make the times more restrictive between December and March but I don't understand a ban in the cooler months. It would be a great shame if we are unable to walk this beach with our pets. I believe the majority of people who do use the beach are with their dogs anyway, and not alone.

We have always found that other dog walkers have been very conscientious about cleaning up after their dogs and are very happy and friendly people in general. It seems that walking their dog on the beach gives many people in our community the opportunity to interact with other like-minded people. Perhaps many of these people would otherwise be much more isolated and lonely.

Ms Tania Goodey, Montagu Bay
In winter, it is usually only people with dogs using the beach, thus the proposed ban will mean no-one will use the beach at this time.

In summer, Tasmania's climate dictates that the majority of people use the beach for swimming, etc between the current 'no dog' restrictions of 10-6 . It is only on an exceptionally hot (rare) day that people without dogs use the beach outside of this time.

Why disadvantage dog owners who make use of this beach in accordandance with current guidelines?
