Sence the passing of my childrens mother I have been taking Care of my two little boys. Being able to work enough hrs to maintain a proper house and feed my children has been the biggest hurdle I have face because of my hour's. My current company has slashed my hours and recently had to cut my day care because of not being able to afford it which has made things worst. I recently had to day a couple days off, to take Care of my children who had the day off from school and had no one to watch them. For that I got a warning from an assistant manager that of it would keep accruing I would be let go. Know that this could be a future problem because of in planned situation, I afraid of being fired because of my future absence, and have no where to turn.

I was given very high recommendations when searching for a new and got one with no problems. They understood I have children and my limitations to my schedule were my only limitations. I have been working there for 4 years now and I have proven to them it was not a mistake by becoming one of the best sales people they have. I am now being told the my schedule limitations are a problem and being forced to consider whether it is worth it to stay. At what point in this country did we change from a nation of compassionate individuals who sought to work together to create a greater life for all of us, to a nation that hides immorality behind rules and regulations designed for in part to the purpose of attrition against those who have the greatest need of compassion.

Until we rededicate ourselves to the idea that justice and liberty and diversity are worth our " lives, -fortunes-, and sacred honor " as our forebears did, then this nation only pays lip service to the dream that once was a government by the people -for- the people.

The issue is not about choices to have or not have children or to have child/ren as a single parent, it is about the whole individual in the same manner as those employees who have no children. Support systems and laws are in place for employees that fit into various categories, some even brought on by illegal means (i.e. illicit drug use) and the protections and opportunities available to them are widely used. In this work, friendly world we live, there should be a mechanism to safe guard single parent homes as well. Being a single parent means having to leave early to pick a sick child up, staying home with a sick child, and leaving to take them to the doctor/dentist. There needs to be rules set in place. Some of us didn't ask to be single parents, it's just something that is uncontrollable some times.
