A requirement of our program is to monitor children's health and dental records to ensure they are healthy and to educate the parents on the importance of updated physicals and dentals. A major part of my job is to work closely with these parents, assisting them with their own personal needs. I have found that many parents lack dental access/affordability and this has become a major health and vanity issue for them; the inability to receive dental care because they are not covered by medicaid or because of their legal status and not having the funds to provide upfront is a major deterrant to having their needs met. Adults need help as well! Once they become ill or die due to poor dental hygiene we ultimately face a larger issue when their children are left without their parents.
