Candles produce very similar emissions to cigarettes, and scented candles even more than cigarettes, therefore to ban smoking on health grounds demands a ban on candles etc. also. This did not happen because the real reason behind the smoking ban was an attempt to bully people into giving up smoking. That in turn is an attempt at social engineering and is morally wrong.

Our local pub is a good old fashioned British pub of which there are all too few left. The landlord and the landlady and the few remaining barstaff all smoke. My husband is disabled and the brewery has made no provisions for smokers so he has to try to lean on an outside wall in all weathers while I'm left inside. 3 weeks ago after a lifetime of visiting the pub at weekends we finally gave up. From now on we will stay at home and not be pariahs.
