Anonymous, Chesterfield, Michigan, United States of America
I believe that if felons are not repeated after doing their time they should be given their lives back because they are forced to stay suppressed and will commit crimes again. Most felons after doing time for their crime are rehabilitated by fear of going back to jail. Its time to give them the help they need in fully rehabilitating. I have no criminal background whatsoever but I see what this does to a person. They lose faith inthemselves and have no self worth. Why dont theyset up a probational period for this and if a oerson stays free of any charges or going back. Reward them! Life is tough enough when you don't have a record. I can't even imagine what its like with one. Especially for young kids who were just simply stupid and because of a bad decision are ruined before they even start life. I agree...

Anonymous, Houston, Texas, United States of America
Most companies will automatically disqualify for a felony charge even if you have a phd in astrophysics. Rehabilitated felons, after a certain amount of time from offense, should be considered fully rehabilitated and therefore not be discriminated against during the employment process. There should be legislature to restrict certain charges from background checks after a certain period of time. Thank you for your consideration.

Mrs. L. J. Clemons, Beaumont, Texas, United States of America
I think that is wrong once a person a served his or her time that they are again sentenced. My loved one made a mistake when he was 16 yrs old, 30+ years ago. He served his 3 years in TDCJ from 18 until he was 21 years old. He made a promise to himself that he would never go back into prison, do anything to be put into that position again, or embarrass his family. He double majored in college & earned a B.S. in Accounting & Business Administration. For 18 years he worked his way up through the ranks to become a controller for a Fortune 500 company. He has been out of work due to new CFO who wanted his own people in place. However my husband has had come close to getting a new job and only feels it is because of his past. This law needs to change it is so NOT fair to continue after 30 years to pay over and over again for the same crime. He is not a statistic and has not returned to prison. He was told that employers only look back 7 years but in the state of Texas when your record is pulled unfortunately it goes back to your first arrest and conviction. It doesn’t stop at those 7 years. It needs to change & doesn’t matter what your conviction was for except maybe repeat sexual off.

Cesar Dominguez, el paso, tx, United States of America
I have not been convicted of a felony but i am pending one because the law enforcement violated my contitutional rights and caught my passenger with a small bag of cocaine ad we were both blamed for it. I understand that most people are either in the wrong spot at the wrong time or usually in their adolencence when they are convicted due to poor decision making skills. Felonys are bad for the economy and are big life changers. Many people learn the hard way when they are convicted but that doesnt mean that they are the same person now when they were convicted. Many people change for the better to provide for themselves and family. I am currently in trial and I am also a soon to be father. I can only pray my lawyers and judge will be on the side of reason.

We have paid our time and paid our fines. Years later why should we still have to pay after the fact? You are discriminating if you don't hire a Black, Mexican, White, or anyone else. I am stuck having to work at low paying low level jobs. I can not even move up in position at my current place of employment because of my felony that occurred in the late 1990's. I have been let go by T-Mobile because of my background which they checked a month after I began working there doing a good job having the support of my store managers but not the support from the corporate office. I sometimes break down and hate myself for what happened to me at 17 years old, now being on the verge of my 34th birthday. I hope someone can hear our voice and change this and have a chance just like everyone else.

I have been trying to get a decent job, but being a felon makes it difficult....
We the People that were convicted with a felony; deserve a second chance, we have family, we have needs, just like everyone else.
We commit on making a difference on our lives, but it is impossible when employers see on the job application that we were convicted with a felony; that's when they put our applications to a side.
Most of us felons have went back to school even finish college and have a degree, and still can't find a good job.
We think we deserve a second chance by not allowing our past affect our future .....
I personally think; not wanting to hire someone. With a felon is discrimination among us all the people that were convicted with a felony...
too too high to pay every second of their to pay every second of their lives for something they did year for something they did years ago....?

Now I am being punished because my baby died and I was depressed. I did not hurt anyone, just did not pull over. I did not even get a DWI- just a felony. i went through mental health court and did all of my counseling, but employers don't look at that or read my explanation, just say their hands are tied. I have had job offers be retracted just because of the felony. I have an education in health care so everywhere denies me. Now I am stuck working as a cashier for minimum wage... even that job took me months to obtain.

Cynthia Arzola, San Antonio, TX, United States of America
One time offender; offense was committed out of desperation to keep myself and my daughters afloat. It is the only regret in my life that I pray and wish every night for that I could change. I have been unemployed for 5 months am desperate enough to work anywhere. I was able to start a job but once the background check came back I was let go. I'm not asking for the crime to be forgotten I'm just asking for a chance to keep my family from losing a home and getting them decent food to eat.

Mr. Rodney Rodriguez, San Antonio, Texas, United States of America
I know its hard for us to find a job,. When I was INSIDE the fence,. they kept telling us the best way to stay out , is to immediately get a job, but yet, does Uncle Sam know that we cant get a job,.?? They say the judicial dept is drowning in debts due to expenditures,. Which is cheaper,. to help us out getting a job? or build bigger prisons? At least one will help the proven statistics of rehabilitation while the other just does nothing but expand,. Dont get me wrong,. I have seen cons that chose not to obey the entirety of society's rule, but then theres those that made mistakes and learned,.,. I made a mistake. Uncle Sam, Havnt you ever made a mistake?,..if so, how much prison-time did you get?? If we paid our debt to society by doing prison time, then why am I still struggling if I'm not in debt? And if prison therefore doesnt pay our debt to our crimes,. then what is it then really??,..Retaliation. Did you really mean what you said, when employers were not allowed to discriminate against any Insovent??? Just imagine if we were to band together to come collect your debts??
