if it's ok for pubs to have approved of drinking/smoking areas then bars and clubs that are able to provide comparable areas should be allowed to trade under the same conditions and circumstances.it is totally discriminatory to not apply the same criteria and improperly speculative
to assume that young people use these facilities more than pubs etc. with no real data to back up on a case by case basis.it's unjust not to take the time and effort to make sure that this law is implemented fairly.

I am a musician and a non smoker. HELP, Don't HINDER VENUES STILL EMPLOYING REAL MUSICIANS. At least make it an even playing field and either ban smoking at ALL venues, or allow ALL venues to have a separate smokers area. It would be a great day if the next generation would want to see a band playing in a bar, without smoke or drunkedness. But venues surviving by attracting the smoking/big drinking crowd will go out of business unless laws and costs help, not hinder their business

Johnos Blue Bar patrons are often over 30s and have smoked in venues for years. As this venue is airconditioned I as a non smoker have never had a broblem in this venue and even though I have observed smokers there over the years have not been affected by their habit due to the good airconditioning system at the venue. Maybe a designated smokers area is a solution.

What is the difference between Johno's and a pub down the road? The smoking laws (and pokies for that matter) has killed the music industry in this country. Johnos Blues bar has legendary status and anything to hurt it would be tragedy. I travel all over australia and nowere else has anything to compare. Sydney has 'The Basement' but it doesn't have The Gong Show. Perth has a blues club but is only open two nights a week. Everywhere else has only violent DJ music nightclubs. perhaps hypertheatical if owners leasee and council could come to a concensus and negoiation for reconfiguration of the current structure of the current building,patrons would have an opportunity to have a smoke and drink, and hence the club would be able to continue to operate as other venues have done. Johno's Blues Bar in Cairns is an important live music venue and whether the government likes it or not, music, alcohol and smoking go hand in glove. Alcohol is also bad for you and has potential grave consequences for innocent bystanders but I don't see that being banned anywhere. I have watched the police in action when dealing with Johno'e Blues Bar, the moto of Serve and Protect seem more like harass and intimidate.

Johnno's is certainly a Cairns icon and a fabulous place for live entertainment, for us no holiday in Cairns is complete without having had a great time at Johnno's!! If the aim of these smoking laws is to create a healthy society, then these laws are a complete failure. Personally, I hate smoking and I avoid direct contact with smokers and I definitely will not kiss one (yechh!!). But as long as some establishments are allowed to have combined smoking and drinking areas, smokers will gravitate to these areas, defeating the noble purpose of these ill-thought-out laws. Johno's Blues Bar is not being treated fairly.
