I think she has the most endearing character the way she was originally portrayed. And to remove her like that showed poor taste and understanding of what she represented. Couldn't you have created an entire episode about her showing how she should be loved for who she is and not removing her from the show like an outcast of society?

Derpy does not necessarily need to be mentally handicapped, nor treated as such, but the character can be used for simple childish humor and effect. Examples of other such characters are Ed from Ed, Edd, n' Eddy, Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants, Twister from Rocket Power, Cosmo from Fairly Oddparents, and so on. Kids have seen such characters regularly, and to remove such characters because certain individuals are offended offends me that my nieces are no longer allowed to see one of their favorite characters and therefore no longer enjoy the show as much.
