The homosexual orientation is intrinsically disordered and homosexual activity gravely perverse, immoral. Homosexuality, in every civilization (pagan, Judeo-Christian, Muslim etc) has always been considered "unnatural" and "animalistic." Homosexuality is clearly condemned in the Bible. And, more basically, homosexual activity is contrary to the Natural Moral Law. No civilization in history, not even pagan Greece and Rome, ever sought to instituzionalize same-sex marriage. Marriage, from a Catholic point of view, is a sacrament, an outward sign of Christ's love for His Bride, the Church (see Ephesians 5). To permit same-sex marriage is to pervert the sacramental nature of marriage. It's not a mere social contract as far as the Catholic Church is concerned. Marriage is a sacred union meant for the conjugal love of one man and one woman who are open to the possibility of procreation as God wills it by natural means. Children have a right to have biological parents. To introduce same-sex marriage is to erode the basic building block of every civilized society, which is marriage and the family as God intended it from the beginning.
