Several young and very talented musicians that live and attend school in Reigate were very much looking forward to performing to their family, friends and the Reigate Community at this year's Festival on the 25th June 2011.

The Festival is for 'OUR' community and celebrates 'Armed Forces Day'. The Festival is organised by Reigate Events Collective, their website slogan reads 'Encouraging Community, Sporting, Visual and Performing Events'

The Festival organisers placed an advert in the Surrey Mirror asking for local performers to apply to play at the Festival. These young artists aged between 14 & 15 replied to the advert on the day it was published, they heard nothing back for over a week.

The artists, represented by a non-commercial music management business, emailed Reigate Events Collective several times and then contacted Reigate Council to ensure the artists would be selected.

I'm sure you can imagine how disappointed, rejected and upset the artists felt when they were told 'NO' by the organisers, "You are not selected". Out of the 10 artists that applied, not one was selected to play, not even for one song for 3 minutes !!

The reality is, there is 'NO' fair reason why these artists should be refused by the event organisers and local council !! The festival starts at 10:30am and ends at 7pm, why can't the organisers provide them with their moment to perform in the 8.5 hours of the Festival?

Perhaps the organisers have decided that young, talented and focused teenagers, that write and perform modern pop and rap music are not welcome to perform in our town? If you disagree with the event organiser decision, please sign the petition.

These artists write and perform the genre of music that we believe the mass majority of our community will really enjoy on the day of the Festival, whether they be young or old.

Thank you for taking the time to read our petition and if you disagree with the event organiser and local council's decision, please sign the petition.

We ask Reigate Events Collective and Reigate & Banstead Council to allow these young artists to perform their music, at their Community Festival 2011.
