Every year, there are many automobile related accidents, in a recent study done in 2012 by the Federal Highway Admission and a number of other recipients, it shows that more than 5,560 Older adults (64+) were killed in automobile accidents and that 214,000 were injured. Which breaks down to about 15 deaths a day and 586 injuries as well. The number of older adult drivers has increased 34% from 1999.

Some of the main reasons things should change is because people change everyday, mentally, physically, and emotionally. By having older adults take a yearly driving course, I believe that this would severely crack down on the amount of accidents caused by older adults. It would keep the roads safer for the new drivers out there and the drivers that have been driving for some time.

You can only do so much to protect yourself, having to worry about another persons driving should not be one of those things you have to worry about. I know it seems harsh but there are many fatalities every day and with this petition we could help saves some lives. If we save 1 life or 1000, every single life counts and should not be taken away by a driver that can no longer focus on driving.

We, The people, call on the United States of America to sign a new national law stating that any driver over the age of 70 Years old should have to take an annual driving course to show they are still competent enough to drive a car safely and not put another persons life at risk.

This will help cut fatalities of Older Adults and make the roads a much safer place for everyone.
