5 Examples of Madison Ave development growth from Rt. 41 to 78th street:

1) Madison Business Center
• Hillsborough County has approved an estimated one million sq ft of warehouse and commercial space. 530,000 sq ft is built now.

2) Kearny Construction Company
• Corporate headquarters are located on Madison Ave.

3) Premier Beverage
• Completing a 500,000 sq.ft. distribution center and has approval to add another one million sq ft.

4) The Port of Tampa
• Investing $40million in construction improvements in anticipation of increased ship traffic due to the widening of the Panama Canal. This means increasing truck traffic along Madison Ave between the port and I-75.

5) As recent as the fall of 2009, 3 developers: Kearney Construction, Prologis and Zon’s Property were requesting approval to continue development along Madison Ave.

PROBLEM:
Private developers will improve over 2/3 of Madison Avenue to a fully functional four lane road by the end of 2010. However, 2,900 feet from 66th street to just west of 78th street will remain neglected without improvements.

In that stretch of road are an 80-home mobile home park, a middle school and high school with 350 students plus teachers and staff and a 140-home subdivision.
All the current and the additional traffic from these developments are creating an unsafe environment for students, parents and residents that use Madison each day.

SOLUTION:
In November of 2010 a referendum will be presented to the voters to increase the sales tax by one cent transportation improvements. These improvements include high-speed rail, bus transit and select road projects.

There isn’t a project that can return more bang for the buck than to widen the final 2,900 ft of Madison Avenue.

With the signing of this petition I hereby request Hillsborough County add Madison Avenue between 66th street and 78th streets to the list of approved widening projects available for funding, should the one cent sales tax referendum pass in November of 2010.
