The building currently occupied by the YMCA of Salem County - located at 204 Shell Rd. Penns Grove, N.J. is being sold.
While the board of the YMCA of Salem County has planned alternatives for how the YMCA will be relocated and reestablished, no alternative fully encompasses the wide array of services and activities that are being offered in the current facility.
As residents of Carneys Point, we have the right and, perhaps, duty to make our voices heard regarding this matter and to even have a say in such a crucial issue. The YMCA of Salem County has been a necessary outlet and social center for the youth of Penns Grove and Carneys Point for decades.
While rent for the building was once at a historic low of $1/month, over the years the rent has jumped to an all-time high of $60,000/year.
We the residents of Carneys Point and Salem County demand that an immediate halt be placed on the sale of the building currently occupied by the YMCA of Salem County and that the township of Carney's Point no longer charge the YMCA of Salem County any rent.
