Traffic calming for Magnolia Heights

In the neighborhood of Magnolia Heights, in Saint Petersburg, Fl., there are two residential roads that are in need of traffic calming devices. The first road is 32nd Ave. N. between 4th and 16th street.

The drivers disregard the speed limit and do not stop at the stop signs. One neighbor states they have had several accidents end up in their front yard and do not even let their children play there anymore. Another neighbor has difficulty getting out of their driveway because of speeding cars.

The second street of concern is 34th Ave. N. between 4th and 16th street. This street is a residential street with a speed limit of 25mph, but very few people drive this limit. Because the street is wide drivers feel they can go faster. Most drivers are going about 35mph and about 20% are going over 40mph.

We have young children living on the street that cannot play in their front yards and a disabled child that I worry will run into the street. 34th also seems to get used as a thoroughfare to Winn Dixie. I think speed calming devices would help slow traffic down and make Magnolia Heights a safer, more desirable neighborhood.
