Ashley River Creative Arts, is a highly respected school with excellent students and parents striving for the success of their children. While this might be true the children are carrying a stress load of their own that we need to seriously take into consideration.
Our children are within the walls of their school for 8 hours plus, per day. Once they have left the grounds of the school, they have to now go home and concentrate on about 2 hours or more worth of homework, making their day at about 11 to 12 hours worth of studying and doing school work. What happened to family time? Where is there down time? If your child is walking laps during recess for an assignment not being completed, when are they really getting free time to be a kid and play, because they've gotten recess taken away, now coming home to only sit and have to complete assignments again. Children need time to be children.
Parents have worked over 8 hours to come home and now have to assist with homework, but can no longer enjoy the pleasures of just going for a walk as a family or sitting at the kitchen table and just laughing. Why because were sitting at a table with our over emotional child trying to complete assignments. Take a moment and put yourself in the shoes of that child.
I am asking the Charleston County School District to release some tension off the homework over load, at least at Ashley River Creative Arts, think about a child who can't be a child when they come to play.
Think about the parents that work all those hours to have to do with an over emotional child that just wants to run and play outside. Homework should take no more than 1 hour, and these kids are struggling, something has to give in order to save our little ones, the stress overload is becoming too much.
