Prostitutes are wide group of both men and women who do not have the ability to stand up against their oppression and abuse due to the fact that their profession is considered illegal.
Due to their inability to speak up for themselves, prostitutes are stuck in a cycle of abuse in which they cannot take control of their own bodies and lives due to coercion at the hands of pimps and outside influence.
We are attempting to shed light on the current state of affairs of prostitution within Los Angeles, and are seeking to form a task force similar to the Prostitution Task Force of San Francisco in 1996.
We, the undersigned, call on the Los Angeles City Council to form a committee to evaluate the current state of affairs regarding prostitution and the treatment of prostitutes once in custody.
Furthermore, we, the undersigned, call on the Los Angeles City Council to evaluate the possibility to provide services such as sexual health exams and job placement / education opportunities to both coerced prostitutes and consenting prostitutes alike, with the ultimate goal of decriminalization within the City of Los Angeles.
