As a former customer reviewer, I have created this petition to bring to the attention of Amazon.com the dissatisfaction of their customer reviewers. We, both as individuals and as a group, feel that the recently instituted voting system to be unfair, imbalanced, and ineffective in its ability to represent us as customer reviewers. As a result of this new voting system, many reviewers, who have given much of their free time to reviewing and promoting products for Amazon.com, are being treated with disrespect and the effectiveness of their reviews has been dampened.

Currently the voting system that Amazon.com has adopted prohibits people labeled as “friends” from voting on each other’s reviews, as well as designating those who vote so many times on a particular individual’s reviews as being a “fan”. In Amazon’s failed attempt to remove partiality from their voting system, they have nullified and/or deleted the so-called “friend” and “fan” votes, including those votes that were cast prior to the formation of the new voting system. Now many reviewers, who have been reviewing for a long period of time, and thus having earned friendship and admiration from other reviewers, are being deprived of the credit and respect they deserve. This is doubly insulting when one takes into consideration the fact that these reviews only help Amazon.com to sell more products and in return rake in greater profits.

What we customer reviewers want is a better voting system, which we hope will more accurately reflect both the quality of our reviews, as well as the quality service that Amazon.com wishes to provide.

We, the customer reviewers, request that Amazon.com alter their voting system in one of the following three ways.

I. All votes shall be counted, including “friend” and “fan” votes, and all deleted and/or nullified votes shall be restored (regardless of whether they were positive or negative votes). In essence, this would be a return to the previous voting system.

II. The removal of the negative vote.
Many reviewers feel the option to vote a review as being “unhelpful” is counterproductive and only increases partiality in the voting system. What we suggest is that instead of a review being voted as either “helpful” or “unhelpful” that we have a 1-5 system (1 being not very helpful and 5 being extremely helpful).

III. The complete removal of the voting system. In this case, there would be no voting system whatsoever and all reviews would be sorted, not by their popularity, but alphabetically by the name of the product, review title, review author’s name, and of course by product rating.

Included is a list of signatures of Amazon.com customer reviewers who desire a change in the voting system or wish to see the voting system removed. Please include both your real names along with your Amazon.com reviewer name as your title (this is to help avoid fraudulent signatures). All those who sign this petition are encouraged to voice their ideas and opinions to Amazon.com by calling 1-800-201-7575 and or by sending e-mails to cust.service03@amazon.com.
Please feel free to share any ideas on how Amazon.com could improve their website and/or their customer service.

It should be noted that all those who sign this petition are in no way legally bound to it or the consequences that it may render. It should also be noted that this petition in no way encourages or endorses the boycotting of Amazon.com and/or its services in any form, and that if an individual chooses to do so that they are doing so of their own volition and not in accord with either the creator of this petition or those who have signed it.
