The history of Christopher Columbus demonstrates that the man is NOT one to be celebrated!
TAKE HIM DOWN!
Columbus State Community College should take down the statue of Christopher Columbus on the main campus.
The presence of the statue directly effects student success because of the violent history of Christopher Columbus. He and explorers like him are directly responsible for the genocide of the Native American and Black Afro American populations in the west.
Activities such as attending a college named after him and being encouraged to idolize him can be directly linked to PTSD like episodes on and off campus among Native and Black students alike.
