The right to vote is the foundation of any democracy. It enables the people of any given democratic country the ability to exercise this right as a form of their voices being heard, their opinions being shared, their concerns being addressed.

The abovementioned should be considered vital as we do not intend to make the Netherlands our home, therefore we should be able to partake in the decision making process (elections) that will affect us once we return to our country of birth.

We, the undersigned students of Sint Maarten origin, residents of the Netherlands are petitioning concerning our rights to vote under the electoral laws that govern Sint Maarten.

The right to vote is the foundation of any democracy. It enables the people of any given democratic country the ability to exercise this right as a form of their voices being heard, their opinions being shared, their concerns being addressed. With this said, we believe that the opportunity should be made available for us to implement that right to vote, therefore we are petitioning for the following;

1. To have reform in the current electoral laws that governs Sint Maarten, with the objective of allowing Sint Maarten students in The Netherlands the ability to exercise their right to vote in Parliamentary elections.

2. To be able to exercise our voting rights as Dutch citizens born on the island of Sint Maarten.

The abovementioned should be considered vital as we do not intend to make the Netherlands our home, therefore we should be able to partake in the decision making process (elections) that will affect us once we return to our country of birth.

Our requests are not new but are commonly practiced throughout the world; therefore we believe that we should not be denied this right.

Affirmatively
