Support the fight against a solar factory in Mendon; Support the health and well being of our community

This petition was created by individuals who have been in direct conversation with Geronimo Energy from Minnesota. Geronimo has approached a number of landowners in the area with purchase and lease options. However, several other solar energy companies are also interested in the area, such as Cypress Creek, etc.
Our group is called the "Informed Citizens Against the Solar Farm"
Why are we concerned? Isn't solar energy a great opportunity?
It is likely a great option in the future. But why does Geronimo need 600-1,000 acres of land? This is large scale solar energy. Prime agriculture land in the heart of a small, but fantastic community concerns us. Smaller solar gardens or rooftop solar could make sense down the road...
Research cannot prove that a farm this size will not impact:
Wildlife, Health, Property Values, etc.
Why did Geronimo find this area attractive?
The land is flat and cleared and easier for this solar company to build a solar farm. Also, it seems they have found a potential landowner with significant land who is willing to sell....They are now approaching more landowners to expand this project. The concern is a domino effect. Geronimo also stands to make a considerable profit from this farm.
How can a community have a say if landowners choose to sell?
Sign this petition. Attend the Nottawa and Mendon township meetings and county commission meetings. This project has to be approved for Geronimo to move forward. This is where the community can make a stand.
Mendon is a unique community. It's a blend of agricultural heritage, athletic dominance and passionate community members who want to preserve our community for years to come. Share your concerns about the size of this farm with the township and county Commission.
Geronimo Energy will do there very best to convince the community that it will bring financial compensation. Do some research to see just how much the community will be impacted in a negative way. Money for our township is not worth the unknown risks.
This petition and fight is operated by a community group that understands that protecting our environment is important, and that protecting our community is a promise we are making to future generations. It's taboo to speak against renewable and sustainable energy. We understand this may cause some challenging discussions. It's a fight about land use and proper location for a "factory" of this magnitude.
