Dear Isabel Alfonsin-Vittoria,

We Students believe Florida International University should open more programs in helping students decide what they want to study. Every year incoming and current students struggle in deciding what they want to study as a major simply because they haven’t been exposed to the right subject or they just don’t know what they want.
In an article written by Ohio State University, they stated in the Columbus for Autumn 2013 nearly 38% of first year students admitted into the university changed their major between applying to the university and leaving orientation. This is a significant percentage of first year students changing their majors between applying and leaving orientation because they haven’t even attended their first class of the semester and already changing their major. Seeing that students are changing their majors so early shows that a large amount of students are uncertain with what they want to do with their lives. Changing majors shouldn’t be taken lightly because it is creating a path and future for students. We students believe that we should implement more programs into helping new and current students who are unsure with their studies and help them explore alternative options or give them that push they need to help drive their careers. Thank you.
