Street Lights on Marsh Lane Bridge over I-635 = SAFETY (not signal lights)
- Texas Department of Public Safety
- United States of America
During construction of the TX Express project, the Marsh Lane Bridge over I-635 was enlarged and constructed as a 6 lane overpass. There are no street lights on the bridge, nor is there any type of divider median between the directions of traffic. This poses a great safety hazard, which at night, which can be compounded by bad weather; low visibility; and poor lane marking.
In speaking with the LBJ TX Express Project and the Texas Department of Public Transpiration, I was apprised that there are no requirements for bridge lighting other than lighting at the intersections on each end of the bridge. The developer has met those requirements of the contract.
TxDOT and the City of Dallas reviewed and commented on the designs before construction began to ensure they met the requirements.
Even though TxDOT and the developer will continually monitor the bridge intersection and frontage road lighting throughout the corridor, I believe it is highly unlikely that lights will be added.
Therefore, I am seeking the support of all citizens who use this bridge to have street lighting installed as a safety measure.
We, the undersigned Citizens of the City of Dallas, Farmers Branch, and surrounding areas hereby request the installation of street lights on the Marsh Lane Bridge over I-635.
