Target:
The Cook County States Attorney--2nd District, Skokie, Il
Region:
United States of America

On June 30, 2013, Jayon Palmer left his home in Skokie and no sooner had he came to the end of the alley, he was severely injured, by a hit and run driver.

An eye witness followed the car and wrote down the license plate and the driver was arrested later that same day and charged with a misdemeanor. At the first court hearing, her defense attorney recommended she be given community service, a fine, with no record.

The State's Attorney and the Judge more or less agree with this punishment, for the family was advised they did not even have to appear at the sentencing hearing. The State's Attorney is even suggesting the family accept this plea bargain due to the fact of their uncertainty of a conviction and subsequently no punishment.

We at the Woods Foundation find this attitude offensive, racially biased and unacceptable, for this messages is one we don't want to send our children. We as a community must protest this decision and demand that the driver be charged with a felony and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We, the undersigned, call on the Cook Count States Attorney to rescind any plea agreements in the case of State of Illinois, Cook County--2ND District, Skokie Ill. vs. Ms. Rebecca Golden and prosecute as a felony to the fullest extent of the law.
