Stop The Minchinbury Landfill!

WHERE: The quarry known best by the term "the Pioneer Quarry" is located on the southern border of the Minchinbury estate. The actual quarry proper is located approximately 500 metres from the M4 (see images below). It was operated previously by Pioneer Construction Materials Pty. Ltd. It has been reported that the quarry has since changed hands.

WHO: Dial-A-Dump Pty. Ltd. - Dial-A-Dump Industries - (see http://www.dialadump.com.au/) are reported to be the proposed operators and facilitators of the operation to fill the quarry with the waste. The business has been reported to be owned by a Mr. Malouf.

WHAT: The waste itself may include: General Rubbish (household/domestic waste of all kinds), Concrete: 500mm or less, Oversize Concrete, Roof Tiles (Red Terracotta), Mixed Concrete and Brick, Clean Hardfill (Dirt, Brick & Concrete), Road Millings, VENM, Golden Sand (Must be Clean), Green Waste, Timber, Large Tree Stumps 500mm Diameter, Council Clean Up, Carpet and Astro Turf, Rubber, Tyres (Car, Truck & Earthmoving), Car Bodies (Proof of Ownership Required), Batteries, Security Burials, Inert Materials, Solid Materials, Furniture, Mattresses and more.

WHEN: The full details of when is not clear. At present, Frank Sartor(the planning and infrastructure minister) office is set to display the proposal publicly once an environmental assessment has been submitted to his office. Mr. Sartor has the power to approve or reject the proposal. It has been reported although is not yet confirmed that Mr. Sartor's office has advised a Minchinbury resident that they "have no idea about any landfill proposal" which has caused some concern and also a great deal of suspicion among some residents that have become aware of this suggestion.

THE CONSEQUENCES FOR MINCHINBURY AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS IF THE PROPOSAL IS APPROVED

Besides the dust, dirt, noise, pollution and smell that will immediately follow, the long term effects for Minchinbury in particular could be devastating. Some long term health concerns include reports of Asbestos being buried there, the onset of rodent, mice and insect infestations, contamination to soil, vegetation and the air and the danger of toxins accumulating and carrying through the air to the residents in Minchinbury. The long term reputation to the area will almost certainly effect property prices and the standard of living, not to mention the geographic stigma surrounding such an enormous landfill, holding thousands of tonnes of degrading and rotting waste.
