#City & Town Planning
Target:
Cambridge City Council
Region:
Canada

In Cambridge, we have limited Heritage areas and a a rich natural resource in the Grand River. Developers have plans to erect two high-rise apartments in the middle of the historic site of Southwards which is also close to the Grand River.
This would not only deface this important historical site but also mar the skyline view of the historic church steeples in town square. In addition, our river needs to be protected from high-rise developments. Once we loose these cultural and natural resources, they will be lost forever from future generations. There are other areas away from the waterfront and our heritage sites that can be developed to meet the governments high-density plans. There are cities across North America that protect these sensitive areas and instead of blending in with the faceless dormitory cities that are popping up along the Hamilton and Waterloo to Toronto corridor, we need to protect what makes us unique. Stop the trumpification of Cambridge's historical Southwards site and protect our Grand River from further high-rise development

We, the undersigned, call on City Council to set height restrictions on any development along the Grand River and the Gaslight District project. We ask that Council seeks public input to that height restriction level so as to represent the voice of the people of Cambridge who wish to preserve the unique historical character of our city.
