Target:
The prime minister
Region:
United Kingdom

I, like many people, am extremely unhappy with the media's and politician's constant use of the terms Islamic State, IS, ISIS and ISIL. The use of the words "islamic" and "state" are inaccurate, misleading and only serves to lend credibility to the cause of those who carry out vile acts against innocents across the world.

There is no "state" in either a legal or moral sense and the perpetrators of recent atrocities against innocent people (including muslims) are not true muslims, do not further the cause of islam and do muslims across the world a great disservice.

A new term should be debated in parliament which politicians and the media can use without including the words "islamic" or "state".

We, the undersigned request that the governments of the United Kingdom and elsewhere refrain from using the terms Islamic State, IS, ISIS or ISIL.

There is no "state" and the perpetrators of recent atrocities are neither muslim nor islamists. The use of these terms lends credibility to terrorists and insults and alienates large proportions of the population, both muslim or otherwise.

We request that a consensus is reached to agree on a new term to describe these people and their ideology which does not make use of the terms "islamic" or "state".
