Keep our Streets and Shoreline Safe
Every seven minutes a Ride the Ducks landing craft will enter and exit Lake Union on a newly constructed private ramp at 1949 Fairview Ave E. Each landing craft will approach the ramp through the water in an area busy with vessels and swimmers of all sorts, then cross Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop Trail, and attempt to navigate congested and narrow Fairview Ave. This will happen under currently approved permits.

In the years since approval of DCIS permit # 3013612, congestion in Eastlake and South Lake Union has increased dramatically, and that is an understatement. New projects will create unprecedented congestion – for example the Fairview Avenue N Bridge Replacement, 1818 Fairview with 205K square foot office building with parking for 262 vehicles, and 27 townhomes on Fairview and Lynn. As you know the fatal Aurora Bridge crash tragically occurred, and this project was put on hold. But expiring permits were renewed without public comment, and construction has now started. And Duck Boat crashes with cars continue. We are very concerned about this.

We request that the project be re-evaluated in the context of today’s traffic conditions, so that public safety issues can be appropriately addressed. The safety of our citizens and visitors is at risk, and is of vital importance.

Dear Seattle City Council Members Rob Johnson, Tim Burgess, and Lorena Gonzalez,

We request that the conditions for DCIS permit # 3013612, Ride the Duck at 1949 Fairview Av East, be re-evaluated so that pedestrian, traffic, and marine safety issues can be appropriately addressed.
