There is no law on ear piercing in Britain, but i feel there should be as it takes away a child's rights. I have no idea when a child would be old enough to make up their own mind about things but everyone has the right to make there own decisions, a parent dragging there baby, toddler or young child to have there ears pierced and pinning them down means it is being done against there will and it is wrong.

Having pierced ears will not benefit them health wise so it is not an emergency to have it done before they are old enough to know if they want it done. In most cases it wont do them much harm either, allergy and infection being worst case scenario usually.

NHS has on there website a fact that more than a quarter of people experience these problems after having a piercing. I think for the sake of a child, the government should enforce a law for the child to decide when they are old enough. Babies are not fashion accessories, they need to be cared for and loved, not injured at the hands of there own parents.

We the undersigned, call on the government to change the laws on body piercings.

We feel that an age of 7 and above is when a child might begin to understand what ear piercing is be able to decide and ask for themselves to have it done. No parent should have the right to decide if there child should have holes put in there ears.

We ask that the government places a restriction of age 7 and above as the legal age to have a piercing in Scotland.
