School shootings in recent years have crippled communities across our nation. In the recent gun shooting at a high school in Marysville, Washington it is time we stop these tragic and devastating killings of our children.

We need to band together and call out to our lawmakers and school district officials to minimize these tragedies. At any given time at any time of day, you can walk into these schools without metal detection, security and unlocked entrances. Most high schools have most doors open for anyone to walk in with weapons hidden in pant legs and jackets. Years ago there was an outcry of parents who felt it was unjust to install metal detectors in our schools.

These parents don't want their children to go to school feeling like their school is a prison. How many more of our children are going to be slaughtered by a fellow classmate before these parents realize that metal detectors need to be installed? Why can't school place an armed security guard at entrances?

Why can't schools implement a locked door policy as soon as school begins in the morning and install buzzers outside the building for people who want to enter the school? These are questions we need to be asking our school superintendents and law makers.

We, the people of this nation, call to our lawmakers, federal government and school district officials, to put an end to gun violence in our schools. To install metal detectors at every entrance. To place armed security guards outside of school buildings instead of inside. To put in buzzers at every entrance so that a person has to ring the buzzer and be seen by school staff on a monitor before allowing entrance into the schools. To mandate that schools hold drills monthly instead of twice a school year.

Too many of our children are at risk for more violence if these measures are not put into place. It's not a matter of feelings by parents who say these measures take away rights. It's a matter of keeping our children safe.

It's a matter of keeping our children alive.
