Harmoni, the organisation which provides out- of- hours, emergency Dr appointments on behalf of NHS Suffolk during weekday evenings, all day at weekends and bank holidays, will no longer be operating this service within Newmarket town at Newmarket hospital.
Anyone needing this service, will in future, be required to provide their own way of transportation and make their way to either Mildenhall or Bury St Edmunds. This service is a much needed and used service by and for the residents of Newmarket.
With the closure of this service people who are unable or to unwell to travel to these allocated towns for an appointment may become more seriously ill and an extra strain will be placed on the NHS as 999 will be used more often in this town for an illness or ailment that could be easily diagnosed/treated by an out-of-hours doctor.
We, the undersigned, residents, family, visitors and friends of the people of Newmarket town, oppose the closure of the emergency out-of-hours Dr facility in Newmarket. We are not happy, able or willing to travel outside of Newmarket town to go to Mildenhall or Bury St Edmunds for treatment from an out-of hours doctor.
We insist that Harmoni review their plans to close this service for Newmarket and recognize, that, Newmarket has a growing population and is frequently visited by tourists and people within the horseracing community, and as such needs this service. We want the decision to axe this service reversed immediately.
