The turkish police harshly attacked a peace demonstration organized by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in silopi Sirnak on June 3, 2010. Over ten thousand people attended the demonstration.

In addition to dozen of BDP polticians BDP MPs Sevahir Bayindir, Hasip Kaplan, and Hamid Geylani were among the demonstrators.

We would like to raise our voice against the ongoing political, legal and military pressures on the Kurdish people and politicians who seek to further the realization of peace, democracy, freedom of speech and human rights of Turkey.

Specifically, we would like to protest the brutal police intervention to the peace demonstration recently organized in Silopi, Sirnak. The turkish police harshly attacked a peace demonstration organized by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in silopi Sirnak on June 3, 2010. Over ten thousand people attended the demonstration. in addition to dozen of BDP politicians BDP MPs Sevahir Bayindir, Hasip Kaplan, and Hamid Geylani were among the demonstrators.

However, the Turkish police brutally attacked demonstrators with batons, gas bombs, water cannons and armoured police vehicle. Many demonstrators were injured. The Kurdish parliamentarian Sevahir Bayindir was also injured seriously in the clashes. unfortunately, a 14 years-old Kurdish boy Firat Basan was killed after being hit by an armoured police vehicle.

The brutal intervention to the peace demonstration is a clear act of state terror. Demonstrators' rights of self-expression on freedom of speech were violated by the turkish authorities. Many demonstrators including a kurdish parliamentarian were heavily injured. A Kurdish child was killed. Turkish authorities violated its citizens' right to live and human rights. We Protest the violation of basic human rights such as right to live and freedom of speech in Turkey.

We condemn the brutal police intervention to the peace demonstration in Silopi. We condemn ongoing political, legal and military pressure on the Kurdish people and politicians in Turkey. Turkey Must respect freedom of speech and human rights. In showing our solidarity with Kurdish activists and politicians, we wish to reaffirm our belief in and respect for human rights, freedom of speech, democracy and peace.
