We have organized this petition as concerned members of this community. Within the last 12 months the environment surrounding this section of highway has changed dramatically.
We have had numerous near misses and several crashes and most devastatingly the fatality of one of our beloved locals Henry Coupe. There is a busy and popular tourist drive turnoff at the intersection, and 4 very busy driveways within this area.
There has been a large increase in traffic volume as all businesses have daily dealings with trucks, such as tow truck, fuel tankers, and delivery trucks. We also have School buses full of kids entering and exiting from these driveways and the intersection.
We are asking for the safety of all road users in this area that the speed be reduced to 80km an hour.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to CHANGE THE SPEED LIMIT FROM 100KM TO 80KM for 500m in either direction of the intersection of New England Highway and Nobby Connection Road.
