Say no to amendments to the Energy Regulation Act (ERA)

Government wants to regulate the use of small scale electricity generators by requiring registration with the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa)
This would mean that every house, farm, hotel, hospital and shopping mall with solar panels or diesel generators (whether connected to the grid or not) with a capacity of less that 1MW must register with Nersa. And even though the ERA provides that registration with Nersa must be done on the prescribed application form and must be accompanied by a registration fee, corresponding regulations prescribing the requirements have yet to be published.
ERA will also empower Nersa to refuse applications for registration under certain circumstances, including where an application is “contrary to the objectives of the Act” and that Non-compliance with any provision of the act is a criminal offence which is punishable by a fine of up to R5 million and imprisonment for up to 5 years. Why punish someone for doing something for the greater good and wanting to live a problem free live that would in essence have a good impact on the environment and benefit the off-grid user?
Eskom is South Africa's energy giant. We have seen electricity prices soar and there is no end in sight. This energy giant will suck us dry to the bone if they can in order to keep paying their CEO's 6 digit bonuses because we keep feeding a bottomless pit with hard earned money every month.
South African citizens decided that there is an alternative and Solar Energy is the way to go. South African citizens decided enough with "renting" our electricity, I want to be free, I want to take charge, I want a return on my investment and I want to make a positive impact on my environment by living a greener lifestyle. Why do I have to register and pay Government/Nersa for wanting to generate my own clean green energy?
The reason for going green is because government is failing to seek alternative greener solutions to effectively sustain affordable electricity supply in South Africa.

So now government discourages its citizens by making use of intimidation tactics like bullying people to register and license their Off-grid systems and if they don't comply they will be heavily penalized

Government is always encouraging and promoting how we should make the economy grow, yet they are literally and deliberately preventing the creating of jobs for small entrepreneurs who wants to make a positive change and in turn is keeping the economy alive.

It is time, fellow South African that the citizens of South Africa takes a stand and demand positive and healthy change without being exploited for wanting to live greener with clean energy.
I therefore urge you dear fellow South African, you have the power, you have the voice.
Speak out against the further exploitation of our citizens and their ability to live independently from Eskoms power.

Times is changing and maybe coal/nuclear energy is outdated.

Let South Africa grow out of yesterday’s ideas and lead the way into a Green-EnergyERA without being penalized for wanting to be self-sufficient and living a greener life.
