The Governor of Georgia Appoints Five (5) Commissioners to form the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment "Commission" and the Secretary of State Appoints the Executive Director of the Commission.
The Executive Director leads and makes day-to-day decisions for the Fight Community like approving fights, addressing issues related to fighters and promoters, issuing federal ids, assigning officials for the fights, consulting new fighters and promoters, etc. The Executive Director is the "Heartbeat" of the Fight Community. Andy Foster, was the Executive Director, and he did such a good job that he got hired as the Executive Director of California and he is leaving on Nov. 6, 2012.
Now the issue becomes who will be the New Executive Director? The Secretary of State has appointed Steve Lindsey to be the new Executive Director. Mr. Lindsey is nice, but does have any fight experience; therefore, The Commission's position is that he is not qualified to be the Executive Director. Therefore, the Commission has stated that they will not approve anymore fights past December 31, 2012; until the Secretary of State appoints a qualified fight experienced Executive Director.
The Commission wants the following:
1. A Qualified Experienced Person
2. A Position that is Properly and Permanently Funded
3. A Position that is Full-Time and
4. A Position that will Remain in Atlanta, GA. If this is Done there is no other Issues. However, We need support to Get this Done by you signing this Petition.
I. THAT the Secretary of the State of Georgia appoint a qualified Executive Director of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission Immediately;
2. THAT the Person appointed should be selected and chosen from a list of 3 Qualified Individuals as determined and selected by the Five (5) Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commissioners. This will ensure safety and experience;
3. THAT the Secretary of the State of Georgia make this a Permanent Full Time Position and that the Office of the Executive Director be maintained in Atlanta, GA.
4. THAT this appointment be according to these guidelines, and be done and completed by no later than Nov. 30, 2012 so that the Fight Community (Fighters, Promoters, Managers, Trainers, Venue Owners, Gym Owners, Fans, Etc.) can continue without unreasonable interruption, anxiety, and uncertainty.
