To the Mayor & Councillors of the City of Onkaparinga,

The Petition of residents of the City of Onkaparinga, draws the attention of the Council to the following.

In June 2015, The City of Onkaparinga endorsed a Skate Facilities Management Plan.

The plan establishes service levels for the City's skate facilities, provides long term direction for capital investment & is in response, in part, to Petitions requesting extensions to the Aldinga Skate Park at Symonds Reserve, petitions recieved over a 15 yr time frame.

Subsequently a feasibility study for a satellite skate facility in Aldinga Beach with Symonds Reserve part of the feasibility area began & is expected to be completed mid 2017.

In November 2016, (with skate feasibility outcomes still pending), Council agreed to construct a Dog Park on Symonds Reserve using $200,000 made available by the State Government to meet Kaurna Chris Picton election promise.

The dog park is less than 20m from the existing Symonds Reserve skate park/ bike jumps & now significantly reduces the ability for expansion to a satellite facility.

Additionally, the dog park encroaches onto the Aldinga School for dogs (ASD) licences area. Changes to ASD licence include dog access on Symonds reserve now within 3m of children's play ground.

The proposed dog access on Symonds Reserve does not meet council Dog by laws requiring dogs to not enter or remain within 20m of a skate park or in any children's playground.

The leased area for dog use is now within 3m of a playground designed for under 5yr olds.

Dog use at Symonds Reserve is now the dominating use of usable open space consumiing over 75% of the reserve.

Community have fought hard for over 15yrs to have upgrades of skate & childrens playground facilties on Symonds Reserve.
The New Dog Park and leased areas consume over 75% of open space on this family reserve & impacts on the ability for future services sought for our children and youth.

The proposed dog access on Symonds Reserve does not meet Council Dog by laws requiring dogs to not enter or remain within 20m of a skate park or in any children's playground with dog use now within 3m of a playground designed for under 5yr olds.

Dog use at Symonds Reserve is now the dominating use of usable open space consuming over 75% of useable open space.

The petitioners here within seek Council to not proceed with a dog park on Symonds Reserve & seek the leased area for the Dog school be withdrawn from such close proximity to open space used by children.
