PETITION GOAL: To help keep good public transportation between Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre (RVCC) at 300 des Pères-Blancs Avenue and Downtown.

Individuals being affected:
-residents living near RVCC
-people working, visiting or using services nearby (RVCC, Champlain long term care facility, Ottawa public library, MuséoPark, Vanier Sugar Shack)

The city of Ottawa is consulting the public on proposed changes to public transportation, including the bus service at RVCC.

CURRENT SERVICE AT RVCC:
-19 Bank (includes stops at Ottawa University and services the downtown)
-19 St-Laurent (includes stops at Montfort hospital and St-Laurent mall)

PROPOSED CHANGES:
-Eliminate direct bus service between RVCC to Ottawa University and downtown. (the number 19 bus would still service parts of Vanier North going to Ottawa U. and downtown, however the closest stop to the RVCC would be on Marier Avenue.

-From RVCC to downtown the bus would take residents to St-Laurent mall and then residents would transfer on the light rail train. From downtown to get to RVCC, residents would also go by St-Laurent mall.

IMPACTS FOR RESIDENTS TAKING THE BUS BETWEEN RVCC - DOWNTOWN:
-A longer commute time
-A transfer (currently there is a direct bus)
-Should residents go take the bus on Marier Avenue (a 10 minute walk from RVCC), there will be no shelter comparable to what is provided at the RVCC, some residents will find it difficult to access and safety concerns.

Changes with the light rail were to provide better service to residents; this will not be the case for residents near RVCC if this proposed change for bus service takes place.

Ottawa's light rail train was meant to provide better service to residents but this will not be the case for people that live near RVCC, should this proposed change to no longer have bus service between RVCC and downtown take place. In fact, there would be a significant deterioration of service.

SUGGESTED RESOLUTION: Keep the current bus service between RVCC - Downtown!

-this is easily done as what is being eliminated in the proposal is the link on Pères Blancs, which is what is being eliminated for the number 19 route todowntown

(citizens concerned about the proposed changes to the bus service at RVCC, can leave a comment on OC Transpo’s customer feedback webpage, contact their municipal councellor’s office to express their concern and or sign this epetition.)
