Audley Junior School are thinking of shutting the Astro Pitch currently run by the school. The facility is situated in the heart of the community and is used by people of all ages from the community as well as the wider community of Blackburn & Darwen. A number of local amateur football clubs have regular training and Academies running from here. This is evident by the volume of people playing each evening.
The closure will affect a vast majority of members of our community - many of them youths who have no other access to any recreation facility in the area. And the fear amongst the community is they will resort to hanging around on street corners and cause anti-social behaviour.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the School Authority to reconsider the decision to close the facility and open a dialogue with the community and regular users of the Astro Pitch on how best the facilty can be sustained.
