With the announced closing of the North Port, FL YMCA gym, many members will be left with no alternative to the healthy group programs and fellowship that the YMCA has created in our community. Many who currently walk or cycle to the Y will not be able to travel to the alternative locations due to inability to drive and public transportation limitations. Additionally, the other YMCA locations do not include the evening classes we have enjoyed in North Port, causing a significant impact to members who work during the day.
The Christian principles and core values that are demonstrated at this location have become an extremely important part of our lives and daily/weekly routines. The North Port YMCA was so friendly and welcoming; more like a family. And our classes were not just for exercise and health, but a time of fun and fellowship.
We are seeking an alternative to shutting down the group exercise classes completely in North Port. What can be done to preserve our group exercise class schedule in a North Port location? How can we help? Aside from the transportation issue, Port Charlotte and Englewood are very busy and do not offer our evening classes. We have a very large membership during "season" as well, which will present more challenges.
