A decision has been made by Sarnia Hockey to:
1) maintain 2 hours of ice time for MD hockey;
2) increase A/AA ice time to 3 hours/week;
3) remove one evening practice/week from each MD team;
4) add one 6:30 am practice/week to each MD team;
5) subsidize the additional ice time granted to A/AA by using sponsorship monies intended for the entire Sarnia Hockey Program;
These decisions negatively impact the entire MD Program. There will be no benefits to any MD player and there is an increased financial cost.
Families may be unable to meet the practice requirements and players may be forced to withdraw from hockey.
With sponsorship monies being lost, there will be added costs to the MD teams and families.
The MD Program is valued by the players, coaches and families. It is a beneficial development program that instils growth, skill and continued passion for the love of hockey into these young players.
We, the undersigned, are asking for clarification from Sarnia Hockey on:
1) who was involved in the decisions and what MD representatives were involved;
2) what information was considered when making the decision;
3) what benefits have been identified for the MD program as a result of these decisions.
We, the undersigned, ask the Sarnia Hockey Executive to:
1) have an open meeting, in which all of the above questions will be answered;
2) reconsider and reverse the decisions that have been made;
3) if 6:30am practice times must be reintroduced, then consider other options for scheduling such as share by rotating across all teams
