The Wilmington Housing Authority is proposing to construct a new affordable senior housing apartment development at 4301 South 17th Street and we need your support. Opponents of this development are attempting to stop the construction of this new housing community for low-income seniors.

On March 7, 2012, the Planning Commission denied our request to rezone the property from single family residential to multi-family low density. WHA intends to appeal that decision to the Wilmington City Council on Tuesday, May 1, 2012.

One of the greatest housing needs in this area is that of the availability of affordable housing for low-income elderly persons. The proposed Pine Ridge Senior Apartments would add an additional 92 units of much needed affordable senior housing to this area. The existing neighborhood is a perfect location for our seniors to live in a safe, clean, convenient, and affordable environment.

We are asking for your support of this proposed senior housing by signing our petition to bring this affordable senior housing to Wilmington.

You are also invited to additionally show your support for this project by attending the City Council Meeting at 6:30 pm on May 1st. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington.
