Retail Trading hours have increased over the last 24 months. Whilst there is an advantage to this, there are disadvantages for the Retail Workers.
The major factor here is less Family Time.
Our weekends are taken by work and we now have to work Public Holidays and days which were previously spent as a family- e.g Boxing Day.
I am looking not to reduce Trading Hours as a whole, but to limit trading on Long Weekends and Public Holidays, also amended trading on Christmas Eve (eg 6am to 3pm trading) to allow workers to spend time at home with family.
We, the undersigned, call on the Western Australian Government to modify Retail Trading hours to include the following:
1. No trading on Public Holidays, regardless on what day of the week it falls on. This includes Boxing Day, Australia Day and ANZAC Day.
2. Amended trading hours on Christmas Eve to make shops close at 3pm to allow staff to spend time with families.
