#Animal Rights
Target:
London Ontario City Hall
Region:
Canada

I will be bringing this petition to City Hall for a meeting on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 5:30pm in the Board of Control room - if you support this petition - please come to the meeting and show your support - it will go a long way to getting their attention.

I have been doing a lot of research and Calgary has the best animal laws, in my opinion. They have been in place for a few years and their success rates are very high. The amount of vicious dog attacks has never been lower there and the facility they built to house unwanted pets in 2000 has never been filled to capacity.

If you agree that people need to be responsible for their pets, that we need to have strict laws against abusers and neglecters, this is the petition for you. If you also believe that limiting people to how many pets they have doesn't stop abuse and neglect, it only stops good people from giving their love and sharing their home with more pets, this is the petition for you. In order to mirror Calgary's animal laws, there is no limit to how many pets you can have but there are penalties for not looking after them properly and in the end, isn't that what we want - for all animals to be treated with kindness, kept safe and loved by the people they live with?

With our current bylaws in London, treating people who have more pets than our current bylaw permits is treated with the same contempt and given the same punishment as someone who tortures an animal - is this really the same crime that should be treated with the same punishments? I don't think so and Calgary has proven to me that their way is better. If you agree, please sign this petition and help make London a kinder, safer place to live for all of us who love our pets.

Thank you.

We, the undersigned, call on the Mayor of London, Anne Marie DeCicco-Best and all the Councillors of London to eliminate the current animal control laws in favour of mirroring the Responsible Pet Ownership laws that are widely viewed as very successful for everyone in Calgary.

The Mirror Calgary's Responsible Pet Ownership Laws petition to London Ontario City Hall was written by Donna McKenney and is in the category Animal Rights at GoPetition.
