Replace Sexist Feminine Intimate Hygiene Ads with Information and Support Services for Violence Against Women.

We are organising this petition to appeal to Victoria University to remove the sexist advertisements for Feminine Intimate hygiene products (“Freshness Wipes”) that are in the female bathrooms. These advertisements are only in the female bathrooms, while the male bathrooms have mental health support advertisements.
These advertisements contradict VU’s Respect and Responsibility Plan. Namely in the Ten Point Plan- Point 1.3- a focus on addressing the root causes of violence against women, gender inequality and ‘stereotyped constructions of femininity and masculinity’.
The body shaming element of these advertisements is denigrating to women, and damages body image and mental health.
Domestic and Family Violence is a critical issue, which effects 1 in 3 women globally. In
Australia, 1 in 3 women over the age of 15 have also experienced sexual assault.
We feel that the Victoria University Administration, in line with their new Respect and Responsibility ten point plan, should replace the advertisements with educational material about Domestic and Family Violence and sexual assault equally in all toilets, as well as support service available.
