WHEREAS repeated attacks by Muslim assailants against the homes and businesses of Christian Egyptians and the burning and the destruction of Churches continue, even, after the January 25th Revolution.

The most notable incidents involved the recent destruction and burning of Churches. These occurred on March 5, 2011 in Soul, a small town 30 km south of Cairo, in Imbaba, a region in Giza of the Greater Cairo Area, on May 7, 2011, and recently, on October 2, 2011, in Al-Marinab village of Edfo, Oswan, 1200 km south of Cairo;

WHEREAS Christian Egyptians have been killed and wounded by Muslim extremists during all incidents, none of the culprits have been brought to justice. During the latest clash on October 9th, 2011, at least 27 peaceful protesters were killed and more than 200 were injured by military armoured vehicles that were used to overrun and crush the peaceful protesters and the Egyptian Military together with the Salafist Jihadist Muslims, who used live ammunition, in attacking and killing the peaceful protesters in Cairo;

AND WHEREAS Christian Egyptians’ lives are being threatened and they cannot peacefully practice their religion;

To the Government of Canada
Petition to:
The Right Honourable Mr. Stephen Harper, The Prime Minister of Canada,
The Hon. Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism,
The Hon. John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs

WHEREAS the undersigned are Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who have concerns about the escalating mistreatment of minorities in Egypt;

In recognition, and great appreciation, of the House of Commons’ unanimous consent for the motion by the member for Scarborough—Agincourt as amended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Oct.17th, 2011 to call on the Egyptian Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the attacks be brought to justice and bear the full weight of the law; and, ask the United Nations Human Rights Commission to investigate the plight of Egyptian Coptic Christians and issue a report on its findings;

We, further, ask to consider all possible political avenues, including sanctions, to direct the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, currently ruling Egypt, along with the interim government to use every resource at its disposal to protect the Christians in Egypt and their homes, businesses, and churches.
We also ask the Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism to expeditiously take all necessary actions towards increasing the quota of Egyptian Christians who are permitted to immigrate to and claim refugee status in Canada and to accelerate the process of permanent resident applications from those who are experiencing, or are liable to experience, similar threats in Egypt.

We trust that our Government will take the appropriate actions to address our concerns.
