It’s been two years since CA voters approved Proposition 47 – this has resulted in reduced penalties for nonviolent crimes, such as petty theft and drug possession. The objective of the Prop 47 supporters is to free up resources so law enforcement can focus on “more violent” crimes. This insidious law has resulted in the release of individuals with a long criminal history. A 33-year-old man with a criminal history dating back 15+ years with multiple “not so violent” crimes was released from jail. His escalating behavior led to a shooting that nearly took a cop’s life. Well, I’m no expert, but history has taught us that crimes lead to bigger crimes, drugs lead to violence, and violence leads to horrible crimes. It is common sense. Proposition 47 is endangering the citizens.
We, the undersigned, call on the repeal of Proposition 47 for the safety of our children and ourselves.
