Imagine working for a company that you dedicated your life to and gave your all to, simply because you loved your job and it met the needs of taking care of your family. Imagine dedicating 20 years of service or more and then being separated from your employer simply because they can, and they are allowed to do so without cause.

Although employees are protected from certain acts of discrimination, an employer can, and in most cases will come up with a plausible cause to end your employment that leaves no evidence as to rather or not discrimination even took place. Imagine dedicating that amount of time and being a day or so away from retirement. You lose that. You lose your home, your job, and every single thing that you worked so hard to get. You lose the ability to provide for yourself and your family.

In today's economy employers are taking advantage of this at will employment law in an effort to save themselves money. Insurance costs are rising, healthcare costs are rising, and employers simply do not want to lose money and they certainly do not want to pay retired employees.

With the at will employment, employers are capable of pocketing large amounts of money and are using this at will employment law to protect themselves from wrongful termination cases.
