The Rockford police department has several military style surveillance vehicles parked, unmanned, throughout the west side of Rockford. They have not, however, been seen anywhere in the city except neighborhoods where there is known to be a large concentration of people of color. Our children walk to and from school past these monstrosities. They serve no purpose other than to instill a system of fear and oppression throughout our neighborhoods. Yes, the city of Rockford has a high rate of crime, but as evidenced by the fact that the Clock Tower (once a source of pride and one of our major tourist attractions) is now closed down due to a rash of crime on it's premises this is not a problem unique to the west side of town. We will not be terrorized in our own homes. Remove these trucks immediately!
We, the undersigned, are united in the objective that these vehicles need to be removed immediately. They serve no other purpose than to terrorize the people that live in the neighborhoods they occupy and as the taxed who pay your salaries we demand you take them away and never bring them back.
