Remove the no hats or hoodies rule from Dr. Knox middle school

Simply enforcing this rule with rigid power struggles creates conflict which in turn creates an unhealthy learning environment. Students who feel like they being told what to do will create resistances which will hinder there ability to fully apply themselves to schoolwork.

A healthy learning environment takes students who are willing to comply and cooperate and don’t feel the need to be defensive.

Another aspect often overlooked is hats and hoodies can help keep the warmth in the head where between 7 and 55 percent of total body heat can be lost.

On another note I feel that this rule restricts the Basic Rights of All Human Beings Freedom of Expression act. The freedom to express yourself does follow you into school and I believe that all students should have the freedom to express themselves through clothing unless the piece in question disrupts the learning environment or encroaches upon the rights of any other individual.

I feel that if the rule were lifted student attendance and student participation would increase. Students would feel more comfortable in the school environment where teens already feel uncomfortable and awkward enough. Please take the above into consideration as we have put the time and effort into a non-violent opposition to this rule.
