Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission

United States of America

Pennsylvania currently uses the practice of Chip Sealing to repair and resurface many roads throughout the area.

Chip Sealing is a method in which gravel is laid over asphalt to create the driving surface, often leaving debris on the road and roadside.

This practice, while low cost, has the potential to cause very serious damage to vehicles and make the roadways unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists.

We, the undersigned, call on the State of Pennsylvania to reduce their use of Chip Sealing, emphasizing other means of road resurfacing, and also to improve their Chip Sealing practices when the method is in use.
